Googlers are initiating an International Cleanup Weekend:

On October  13th and 14th, Googlers and many people around the world will head out to clean up local parks, beaches, trails and other places close to home. 

As I remember, a group of volunteers had gathered from El-Shella Yahoo! Group and formed a separate group for Cleaning Cairo. We never do anything in real as a group and I remember that I wanted to participate in Clean Up the World campaign sponsored by Mobinil on 2004 and didn't do anything also.

Today, Googler use Google Map to share, spread and invite others to help. Again it initiate a dream inside my head to see Clean Egypt. Could I see Cairo clean even for 1 day.

It's only few hours after cleaning my car and on my home furniture to see a layer of dust. I always wonder from where does this huge amount of dust in the streets, on our cars, in our appartment comes from?!!!

Google advice to form groups of 6-10 people, choose a place near your area, map it on Google and when you're done send your photos and videos to your map.

Can we initiate such campaign in Cairo or any place in Egypt? If you'd like to join this global effort, you can get started here and send me invitation. It could be another day other than October 13th and 14th as it'll be Eid El Fetr in Egypt, the main idea to collaborate our effort to make our places cleaner and not waiting for our failure government plans.

الحقيقة أنا مستغرب من موقف الأحزاب السياسية والحركات العنترية اللى كانت تجوب الشارع وقت إنتخابات الرئاسة ومجلس الشعب وقضية القضاة. اللى مستغربله إن الناس بدأت تخرج اليومين دول فى كثير من المحافظات وخاصة الدقهلية بسبب أزمة المياه وبعض العمال فى العديد من المصانع فى بورسعيد والمحلة وبعض العاملين فى نيِّف من المصالح الأسكندرية ودمنهور ولكن لا أسكت الله حساً للأحزاب والنواب والحركات والشقلبظات!!! سبحان الله كانوا بيقولوا عايزين الناس تخرج، ليه مفيش حد غيرنا بيعترض ودلوقت سايبين الناس تواجه مشاكلها الأهم (المياه - المرتبات - عقود العمل) وهى القضايا التى تمس المواطن المصرى البسيط والفقير بدون أى مساندة على الإطلاق!!!

الله يرحم الفقير واللى ملوش ظهر فى البلد دى

قد تعودنا على شعار الشرطة: "الشرطة فى خدمة الشعب" وفوجئت بتغييره: "الشرطة والشعب فى خدمة الوطن". شعار مستفز جداً، هل الشرطة الآن تحدد أهداف الشعب والوطن؟ هل سنجد بعد قليل شعار جديد: "الشعب فى خدمة الشرطة"؟ أو ربما "الشرطة فوق الشعب والوطن" وهو الشعار المعمول به حالياً.

البحث عن شقة، رحلة شاقة جداً قد تنتهى بإنهيار أعصابك والإصابة بداء السكرى والضغط الدم.

ليس هناك أزمة سكن كما يعتقد البعض، فالسكن كتير والمعروض من الشقق أكتر من المطلوب والطبيعى فى هذه الحالة حسب قانون العرض والطلب أن تقل أسعار الشقق ولكن لأننا فى مصر أم الدنيا. فليس كل القوانين الطبيعية سارية، العكس هو اللى بيحصل.

أسعار الشقق فى تزايد متطرد حتى أصبح المتر بأكثر من 2000 جنية فى معظم المناطق مثل شبرا والمقطم والزيتون وبـ 4000 جنية فى مصر الجديدة وأجزاء من مدينة نصر وبـ 6000 جنية فى المهندسين والدقى والعجوزة!!!

From long time, people working behind non-free encyclopidias, like Britannica, are fighting out behind Wikipedia claiming that it doesn't provide accurate information.

Wikipedia Founder, Jimmy Wales, decides to make an opening montage for the documentary film Truth in Numbers: The Wikipedia Story, an intimate study of the rise of Internet technology and one man’s (and one hundred million volunteers’) quest to provide free knowledge to the entire world. May be to prove to the world that Wikipedia is important and realiable as a reference for information for research.

It seems that John and Brishen (people working on the documentary film) decide to visit Egypt and make some interviews with Wikipedia contributors in Cairo and Alexandria. It's out of the schedule plan and no arrangement for anything.

Mido know about it from English Wikipedia by chance and he send an email to Arabic Wikipedia Mailing List on Apr 21, 2007 to ask for volunteers that's interested in such meeting in Cairo.

Mohamed Mostafa, Alnokta (Mohamed Magdy), Ahmed Hashim and me managed to join the meeting at 8:00 PM downtown in Cairo.

We had difficulty getting in time because of traffic jam in Cairo streets and had another difficulty, also, finding a place that could allow us to have video recording but at last we managed to find a good place and we start the interview managed by John and Brishen.

We enjoy the time chatting about Wikipedia effeciency, benefits, motivations to contribute and difficulties in Arabic Wikipedia.
